Two Things, Really!

I have 2 things I’d like to share today that have come to my attention. The first being, Felica is now in training to be my running buddy. Now this may change tomorrow, as she has a bad habit of pulling, and she’s pretty strong, so I go into ditches sometimes when I’m running too fast and she pulls on me when I’m in the air. Anyway, for a 8 month old pup, she’s doing stellar!

Now, we go out after I have already been on my 5K run. I do this about 4 days week. The other 3, I just go run with her. Last time she was weighted, she came in at about 45 pounds, she’s low to the ground, and like I’ve said before she reminds us of the “Gatekeeper” from Ghostbusters.

Something that Felica likes to do is chew things. Plastic bottles are fun, Braums cups with lid and straw still attached are challenging, paper, sticks, you get the ides, whatever is lying around within her reach.

I believe she has started a one dog campaign to clean up our 1.2-2.0 running area. Today for example, she came across a plastic juice bottle, the ones with the twist off cap thingy and you squirt the sugar straight down the kids throat! It’s blue. Anyway, she picked this bottle up and we ran all the way home with it. Along the way, quite a few people drove by and noticed her with a bottle. We gave them something to smile about! I really wish I could take a picture or video of us, but I’m afraid I would break bones doing that.

The other thing I would like to bring up is I saw in the paper this morning that West Nile virus-postive mosquitoes found at various places in the county!  These counties seem to be west of us, so I think if they were to check here, they would probably find it in our county. Anyway, I’m reading this blah blah blah, and I get a bite on the leg, which causes me to look at my feet! My poor feet! Most runners have U.G.L.Y. you ain’t got no alibi feet. I am blessed with cute feet, ask Preacher man! BUT, I have been under attach from biting, stinging, burning, little black ant’s! Oh My Goodness! I don’t think these things are fire ants, they are too small, but they are mean and after they bite you, it burns and stings, and it leaves a swollen liquid filled ouchy!

So what’s my point? Well, west nile is bad news, but so are these stupid ant’s. If the county is going to spray for west nile virus-postive mosquitoes, I think they should also add something in the spray to kill the dang ant’s.

Just Two things, really…

I had a challenging day of it yesterday and it’s taken me till now to process through it. My main point of said process is “Why do so many people function in a job with no joy, no compassion, no generosity?” The short answers is “They don’t know Jesus!” But the hard part is to look at my part in it.  I don’t work with these joyless jerks everyday, just once, maybe twice a week, so I don’t get the chance to “get to know them”. It’s hard for me to judge if they’re having a bad day, frankly because everyday is a bad day for them.

My first option is to tell her how ugly she’s acting, punch her in the face, and walk away…fastly. My second option was to cry all the way home (26 miles) and ask God why He has forgotten me!!

During that crying drive home, I was blessed to hear my favorite song of the month.

Not Toby’s best video, but what I’m after are the words.

I know your heart been broke again, I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet. I know your feeling like you got nothing left. Well. lift your head, it ain’t over yet.

So, to start with, God ain’t forgot about me. He’s asking me what my part is going to be. I can lift my head and know that God will use me, when I turn it over to him. It’s just so easy to revert to my default self and punch her in the face. (Yes, I can see God shaking His head)  I just have to choose, everyday, to be filled with joy, no matter who’s watching or who’s not. I’ll keep you posted.

Well, lift your head, it ain’t over yet!

Saturday Thought

I wanted to explain why I think God is calling me a spirit of poverty. Mainly, it’s because I keep running across thing that have to do with poor in spirit. I opened my email this morning and Henri Nouwen has this to say…

The poor have a treasure to offer precisely because they cannot return our favours. By not paying us for what we have done for them, they call us to inner freedom, selflessness, generosity, and true care. Jesus says: “When you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; then you will be blessed, for they have no means to repay you and so you will be repaid when the upright rise again” (Luke 14:13-14).

The repayment Jesus speaks about is spiritual. It is the joy, peace, and love of God that we so much desire. This is what the poor give us, not only in the afterlife but already here and now.

I think we find it rather hard to get our heads around being poor in spirit, because the word poor and poverty bring to mind money and our stuff, and Lords knows we don’t want to give up what we fought so hard to get.

Over the years, Preacher man and I have given up a lot of our money and stuff, for all kinds of reasons. I find that we now have room for other stuff, maybe newer stuff. But I think most of all we let go of our stuff in hopes that God would fill that need in us.

To be nothing, have nothing except God.

In the end, that’s all we can take with us anyway!

Poverty of Spirit

Say what?!

I know right. I just figured that if I’m having to spend time with this, I’d take you with me so maybe we could make some sense of it.

Jesus told us…”Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” ~Matt 5:3.  So what does that look like? One of the meanings of poor states: humble; modest. So to have a humble spirit or a modest spirit. That seems to go against everything thats going on around us now a days! But this isn’t about what’s going on around us, it’s about what’s going on inside us.

We are called to be humble of spirit.

Sooo lacking, that we depend on God for it all! “I am nothing! It is all about you in me God! It has to be cuz I’m so lacking!”

I read somewhere that our blessing is hidden in our poverty.

OK, that helps. I feel like I have a purpose, to be blessed, to find my blessing…in my lacking…

Found it!

Some of you may be wondering if I’m working, for money, from someone other than Preacher man.I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that yes, I am working. Oh, I guess you wanna know what I’m doing huh? Well, I found a job that I’ve never done before so naturally I grabbed it. Actually, I had close to 20 app’s out there. Everything from birthing calf’s to setting up collage laboratories. The only job that called me was for merchandizing, so I do that now!

Long story short, I stock the magazines at 2 stores locally and 1 about 25 miles west, 3 days week, which allows me time for spiritual direction and cleaning the place up. It’s fine for now. It’s not what I went to school for, but then again, most of what I’ve done for my whole entire life has nothing to do with what I went to school for.

I found the library! Did I tell you I found the library? Oh my! Now I’m enrolled in a program…Book a trip across America reading program. Yeah, I know…sucker! Anyway, I have a year to read a book that either takes place in that state, is about that state, or is by an author who is from that state. The most interesting so far has been a book by William Doxey – Cousins to the Kudzu. If you can find it read it. Well worth it. It counted as my Georgia book. BTW, I’m starting my 7th book , so I’m well on my way to reading through 50 states!

It’s hot! More on that later!

Saturday Thought

DSC_0010Why in the world do we do it? We keep stuff until it’s either unrecognizable or flat-out hurting someone.

My case in point: Bra’s.

That’s right, I hold onto bra’s way too long. I can admit it! My main reasoning is because I paid a hefty sum for them, those that are from Victoria’s Secret. So let’s see, how old are they? Got them when we lived in Rogers, AR 2010? Or did these come from Lexington KY 2007? A perfect example of how old they are…I don’t know!

Now, don’t get me wrong, these VS bra’s still look good and I guess you could say their still doing their job, BUT… It’s the underwire… Can I get an amen? I swear its new purpose in life is to punch a hole into my heart. I have moved the wire around. I have tried to get the fabric to cover it, I have tried, really I have. But I am done! I threw that bad girl holder in the trash yesterday and I’m not looking back!

My question is still the same, why do we hold onto things that hurt us?

A Good Burger

Sometimes I feel like finding a good burger is as hard as finding a good church! Deep down inside, you know what you’re looking for. Real meat, fixed on a griddle, with fresh fixins and the bun heated on the griddle too! Real food, that’s what you’re looking for, real, simple, filling! I mean is it really that much to ask? Now granted, small towns have a little harder time at making it as good as the big cities, but come on folks, don’t tell me it’s impossible.

Preacher man had yesterday off so we went by the Post Office, mailed a box back, then stopped by the Library to get him a card and me more books. After that, we were hungry, so we headed to Muddbones. Never been there before but we had seen people wearing shirts with their name on them and it always had cars parked around it, so that had to mean something!

What was left!

Holy Moly, one of the owners has his act down to an art and even if you don’t like burger’s you should drop by to hear him rattle it off. I got a Bacon Cheeseburger and Preacher man got a Smoked Jalapeño Cheeseburger, both were awesome. The only bad part was no fries or beer.

We went to a little church 2 weeks ago that, counting us, had 20 people in attendance. We almost went back this past Sunday. We will try it again. Deep down inside, we know what we’re looking for.

I just need to meet some people so we can start having church right here at the house.
